Basílica de Agua Santa
(Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador)

The temple is built with moderate Gothic style black and red volcanic rock environment. The towers with a height less than initially projected, was completed in 1929.
The internal decoration of the sanctuary, however, is due to the persistence of P. Sebastian Acosta, OP, parish priest from 1938 to 1948. The whole sanctuary and convent was blessed and inaugurated in 1944.
The paintings in full is due to Mideros brother Henry, OP, made between 1938 and 1944.
The temple internally maintains a unity of style and is really beautiful and welcoming. What catches the attention of visitors are the mural paintings collecting miracles of the Virgin of Holy Water, mainly those related to major eruptions of the Tungurahua volcano along the last four years, whose disastrous consequences, in the faith of the baneños, the population was preserved thanks to the special protection and intercession of the Virgin.
In this sense the Sanctuary is the most important center of historic character, cultural and artistic town of Banos was rightly declared Cultural Heritage of Ecuador in 1997
