The Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude is located in the city of Oaxaca , southeastern Mexico . It was built between 1682 and 1690 , and is a shrine to the Virgen de la Soledad , patron saint of the city of Oaxaca. The construction is of Baroque style , and feature low height, as a constructive strategy to prolong the life of the church, in a region where earthquakes had been destroyed by the time of its construction several important buildings. The building of the Basilica began its construction in 1690 to 1682 and was consecrated by Bishop Sariñana and Cuenca, the works were made by the friar Bethlehemite Sebastian San Felipe,
The Basilica of La Soledad has a Latin cross. The essential building material is the green stone , a very common stone in parts of Oaxaca. In contrast, the magnificent cover was made of yellow limestone, and is slightly out towards the temple court compared to bell.
This cover has a screen design and has four levels and Fronton , the center of the first section of the façade we find the access bay flanked by two fluted columns and Doric capitals and four arches and niches with polygonal base we find the representation of St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Augustine and St. Rose of Lima,
In the second section of the front of the building over the main entrance, there is a relief depicting the Virgin Mary, kneeling and weeping at the foot of the Holy Cross , a human skull and small branches of shrubs, representing life after death, a relief fund of the people of Jerusalem. Two little angels and distinguish the sides, the first of them reminiscent of Veronica, by the mantle with the face of Christ in another seems to allude to archangel St Michael, and four niches with the representation of Santa Ana, San Joaquin, San Juan Evangelista and Santa Lucia.
At the center of the third body have the door of the choir and side representation of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, with the archangel Gabriel on one side and the other kneeling Virgin , two niches represented by sculptures inside San Sebastian and Santa Isabel, on the sides of two small reliefs representing St. Nicholas and St. Nicholas Bari Tole 
Ntino.
In the last body, an allusive relief to the Assumption of the Virgin.

Festivals and Events

Originally, the cult was modest, but gradually reached an exceptional root in the heart of Oaxaca, insomuch, that all peoples have a replica of the image.
