Description
The dimensions of the nave is 58.50 m long, 9.65 m wide and 14.65 m high. The main altar is made of marble from Carrara white. The dome peaks at 42 m height. At its peak was laid on March 28, 1869 , an iron cross from Dr Philemon Posse from Cordoba.
The facade of the Cathedral Basilica is framed by two towers at its lateral ends. The church has a nave and two side chapels and has several interconnected. The floors were built with solid planks of carob , today marble mosaic with geometric decorations. - April 16, 1859 , being Vicar Forane the Fr. Luis Gabriel Segura, signed a contract to build the new array, with the Italian architects Carlos Tenivella and Natalio Balloca
- May 1862, Arch Tenivella dies, and being Wenceslas Achával Fray Interim Vicar, take away the first document, signing a 2nd contract with Luis Caravatti, Italian constructor also.
- December 4, 1869, still not fully completed the Vicar opens Facundo Jose Segura, freeing it to acts of public worship.
- 1875 conclusion.
- October 4, 1909, created the Diocese of Catamarca, by national law No. 6771
- February 5, 1910, Bull of Erection of St. Pius X, given in Rome, the Mother Church, Cathedral Church passes.
- April 5, 1941, to commemorate the Golden Wedding Coronation of the Sacred Image of the Valley, Pope Pius XII awarded the title of "Basilica" the Sanctuary, order granted by cable. That same year, was declared a National Historic Landmark
