Fiesta de los Inditos de la Virgen de Guadalupe (León, Mexico)

The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Guadalupe in León, begun in 1839, was finally completed July 8, 1875. Ever since, on January 12, one month after the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Sanctuary celebrates the festival of the Inditos, "Little Indians". Dressed in the style of the native Juan Diego on whose cloak the Virgin left her image in 1531, children and adults in shawls and huaraches bring crates of food to her shrine. On December 11, the faithful gather at 11 pm to bring in the official feast day with mañanitas, morning serenade, after which masses are held every hour all day.
