The origin of the devotion to Our Lady of Pedancino in Cismon del Grappa is lost in the distance of centuries. Cismon del Grappa is a commune in the province of Vicenza in northern Canale di Brenta Valley.
The origin of the devotion to Our Lady of Pedancino in Cismon del Grappa is lost in the distance of centuries. Tradition places the origin at the end of 700, as a result of the fight against the sacred images triggered by the Emperor Leo the Isaurian of Constantinople in 727 and continued by his successors.

THE DISCOVERY
 
In the very small territory Cismon del Grappa, behind the mountain, near the river there is a wide and steep fracture, and a cliff and it has developed a majestic hawthorn.
On a cloudless spring day, as usual, a pastor accompanies his sheep in the vicinity, when a mysterious light that shines in the throat of the cliff, and hawthorn appears unexpectedly, you see a beautiful image of the Virgin holding up the child, smiling and invites you to get closer.
But the pastor does not dare to approach, and forgetting even their small sheep, run to the house screaming and calling people to see the miracle. The news spreads everywhere and people run the place and reaches the Bishop of Padova sending experts to examine the image and to diligently monitor and prevent abuse. The statue is the work of an experienced hand, but in a very different artists from that region style, also the wood is not in these forests and hardness shows coming from distant countries.
 
The flood of 1748
The Emperor Charlemagne, in the summer of 799, signed the order to worship Our Lady of Pedancino. Pastoral visits the Bishop of Padova, for more than six centuries and the many faithful who visit in their traditional festivities talk about thank attributed to Our Lady of Pedancino.
The August 18, 1748 a terrible flood massacres all over the place: the parish church severely damaged, leaving intact only the chancel, sacristy and bell tower, destroyed 36 houses completely and sweeps Pedancino statue carried by the waters of Cismon to Friola di Pozzoleone, thirty miles from the valley, being intact.
The joyful announcement of the return of the statue of the Madonna transmitted Cismon is organized for September 5 returning from Friola with pause and Carpane Bassano.

On September 8, the statue comes to Cismon and temporarily stay in the sacristy of the parish church, to rebuilding a new sanctuary.
 
IMAGE TURNS TO GO IN 1917
Two centuries later the night of November 5, 1917, as a result of the events of Caporetto Cismon reaches the order to evacuate hastily near total destruction zone.
The parish priest obtained permission from the authorities to bring the community and the statue of the Madonna. These are days of great confusion following the declaration of Caporetto, but the faithful of Cismon held faith in trusting your image safe to return soon to have the image protection.

CHURCH

The old church was restored in the mid-eighteenth century, and still retains the beautiful sanctuary and bell tower of the sixteenth century.
The beautiful bell tower is Romanesque style late and the church keeps a Gothic tabernacle and eighteenth century carved wooden altars.
Since then a deep devotion along the valley of the Brenta and in August the anniversary is celebrated with a grand celebration with various forms of original party and parades with arches covered fir fronds began.
Every ten years, Grappa Cismon of the glories of the Madonna del Pedancino solemnly celebrated rekindling faith and appreciation to her for her continued protection.
