Foy-Notre-Dame, Belgium (1609)
Commemorated on September 4
In 1609 Gilles, a woodcutter from Wanlin , and Innocent Delimoir that accompanies it, by debiting a huge oak tree they had to shoot it discovered a small statue of the Virgin Mary : made of terracotta , it is surrounded by some stones and hair. Gilles and Innocent cry miracle. The story spread around, and quickly develops a spontaneous worship.
In fact, the oak was at the edge of a path taken by pilgrims traveling to Saint-Hubert . Some two centuries before the discovery of 1609 , one of them placed in the hollow of the tree a statuette of the Virgin Mary . Over the years the tree bark closed over her and the path being less crowded, the existence of the statue was forgotten.
The statue was first placed in another oak, but the Baron of Celles, having found that they had tried to steal the door in her oratory of Castle Vêves (barony Those ). Visitors and pilgrims start pouring.
A first miracle took place in 1616 : following the intercession of the Virgin Mary is an old man cured of a hernia as painful as debilitating. The canonical investigation prescribed by the Bishop of Liège , Ferdinand of Bavaria , is positive in its conclusions

History
In June 1609, a man who was planning to build a boat felled a tree on the estate of the Baron of Celles.
It turned out to be partly rotted, so he began to chop it up for firewood. What was his amazement to discover, in the hollow of the trunk, a lock of hair, some shiny stones and a figure of the Virgin composed of quartz-like substance. As the news got around, the Lord of Celles had an oratory built, which was replaced a few years later by the present structure, at the suggestion of the Prince-Bishop of Liege.
