Santa Maria in Montesanto is a church in Rome , located in Campo Marzio , in the Piazza del Popolo , Via del Corso and Via del Babuino , also known as the Church of the artists. It is popularly known as the twin church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli , while presenting significant differences especially in setting planimetric.
History
The name of the church derives from the fact that it replaced a small church that belonged to the Friars Carmelites in the province of Monte Santo in Sicily. It was built on the initiative of Pope Alexander VII in 1662 , but the work was interrupted at the pontiff's death in 1667 , resumed in 1673 under the supervision of Bernini and the collaboration of Carlo Fontana , was completed in 1679 .
