OUR LADY OF MT CARMEL Palmoli, Italy (13th c.)

Commemorated on July 27
The original ancient statue  similar to the classic images of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, was replaced by the current, Neapolitan work in April 1854 when the statue was carried from Naples to Palmoli by 20 men. On July 16th in the morning, in a centuries-old tradition, the pastor of Palmoli processes with the faithful from the Sanctuary, bringing the statue of the Virgin Mary to the parish church where Mass was celebrated. On July 27 in the morning, a “parade of granòppoli and pacchianelle” marches through the streets of Palmoli where the faithful, in traditional costume, bring donations to Our Lady followed by a Mass and procession with the statue of the Virgin Mary. In the afternoon, the great procession takes Madonna back to her sanctuary.
