In July 1616, a large cross is planted on the hill overlooking the Sanctuary. Two months later, five peasants in the village of Montaut, rest after a long day working in the fields, when a violent storm hits on the hill overlooking Betharram. The violence of the wind was such that the cross is little time ashore. Few moments after being collapsed to the ground, the cross rises alone in a dazzling light .... The new rependue, in the following days, a crowd of Christians arrived in Betharram, including Bernadette's parents, to thank God of miracles. In 1623 the first Calvary of Betharram was inaugurated.
